Things to Consider When Purchasing a Remote Car Starter in Green Bay or Wausau Wisconsin

As Wisconson's premier installer of vehicle remote start systems, we receive a lot of calls from people trying to make the right decisions. Some of the most common calls are about what the best brands are, who should install their remote start, and what features they should look for. Let’s start off with some common mistakes…

Purchasing Parts Online
We are in the era of buying everything online. But don’t be sucked in by the low prices you see for remote starter kits online. A majority of installers simply will not install parts purchased online. There are several reasons for this: We don’t know the history of the product. We can’t warranty parts that aren’t purchased through us. We become liable for your parts when we start the installation. Any shops that do install customer provided parts will likely up-charge you for the added liability of taking on this task which will waive any small savings from your online purchase.

Dont Sacrifice Quality
When it comes to remote starters, you truly do get what you pay for. Choose a brand that has been around for a while and has proven it’s name, such as ArcticStart by Compustar. These kits are made with better quality components, and have gone through more research and development. The remotes themselves take a significant amount of abuse just from being in pockets and purses every day. A cheaply made remote will be chipped, smashed, and lifeless within a few short months. We’ve seen it!

Don't Get Up Charged
This is a very common mistake. When pricing out a remote start for your vehicle, make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. Ask if the price includes everything needed for your specific vehicle. Most vehicles newer than 1995 will also require bypass modules for the ignition system, and other incidental electronics and materials. A lot of installers, even the big box stores, will “bait and switch” you with a low advertised price and then tell you that you need hundreds of dollars worth of additional parts when you drop the vehicle off for the install. All of our prices include everything needed for the remote start installation on YOUR vehicle!

Tips for Buying a Quality Remote Starter

Now that you know what to avoid, here are a few quick tips to make sure you are getting the best end product…

Choose the right shop for your install

Many small stereo shops and mobile installers often hire cheap, inexperienced installers so they can offer a lower end price. They also cut corners to save time on the installations. The most common way installers will save time is by using cheap plastic crimp on connectors for splicing into your vehicles wiring. We’ve even seen stripped wires twisted together and covered with electrical tape. This can cause HUGE problems with your vehicle electronics down the road when the connector comes loose or the tape peels off and shorts out.

At Finish Line Auto Sports we hand solder every connection which creates a permanent bond between the spliced wires and guarantees that nothing will come loose and short out down the road. We also cut the harnesses to the right length before the install to remove extra wiring that can cause a bulky install and cause wires to rub and short out over time. There is a reason car dealerships in Green Bay and Wausau choose Finish Line Auto Sports to install their remote starters!

Make sure the shop stands behind their product AND their installs

At Finish Line Auto Sports we offer a LIFETIME warranty on all of the electronics that we install. Often times our warranty extends well past the part manufacturers’ standard warranty. We also stand behind every installation that we do. If there is ever a problem with your remote start, we will diagnose the problem and repair it for free if it is caused by the installation. We take extra steps to make sure this doesn’t happen.
